In New York City, the pursuit of happiness is synonymous with the pursuit of pizza. From Grimaldi’s to Lombardi’s, NYC has pizza nailed, and we’ve closed in on some of the best that Brooklyn has to offer. This pizza day tour is made possible with Revel (since we’ll be covering a lot of ground) and stretchy waistbands (for obvious reasons). We recommend making this trip a Saturday or Sunday affair.
Di Fara Pizza – 1424 Avenue J, Brooklyn, NY 11230
Start your journey off by heading 35 minutes from Williamsburg, Greenpoint, or Bushwick out to Midwood. Just past Prospect Park, you’ll find home to one of the most famous pizzas in New York City. Di Fara Pizza, founded in 1959 by Domenico DeMarco, is the ultimate stop for die-hard pizza lovers.
Dom handcrafts each pie with ingredients imported from Italy and the shop closes in the evening when he feels like going home. You’re jealous of his life? Us too. We highly recommend starting your tour here and arriving before noon. A line quickly forms around the block of this 10 seat-shop. Although Midwood isn’t a drop-off zone for Revel yet, you’ll be able to park your moped and pause your ride while you enjoy the slice.
Lucali – 575 Henry St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
Next, hop back on your Revel and head 25 minutes over to Carroll Gardens and find Beyonce and Jay-Z’s favorite neighborhood spot. But don’t let the big names fool you, Lucali is as casual as they come. Mark Iacono opened Lucali back in 2006 as a passion project. Over the past 12 years, his thin crust brick oven pies have taken off and have been raved about in everything from the New York Times to Conde Nast Traveler. In addition to the killer Za, Lucali is known for its take on the calzone. We won’t judge if you try it out and stray away from getting a second slice. If you head here after Di Fara, you’ll likely be first up in the que and secure a table when the doors open at 5pm.
Roberta’s – 261 Moore St, Brooklyn, NY 11206
Once you’ve had your fill at Lucali, make your way back to the last stop on your Revel Pizza Tour, Roberta’s. Located conveniently within the Revel drop-off zone of Bushwick, Roberta’s checks all of the boxes, with its lively bar, bakery, terrace and separate fine dining experience on-site.
Roberta’s serves up classic Neapolitan-style pizza and while its founding was in Bushwick in 2008, their empire has grown and you can often find their stalls at different food fairs around the city. A few favorites of ours include the Lil’stinker, topped with mozzarella and garlic, and the ShroomsDay Device, topped with oyster mushrooms, black pepper and cream!
Have fun and let us know how it goes! #revelandgo… #getpizza.
